Performance 3 months on...

It's 3 months since Tony replied in the "Poor I/O Performance" thread and we'd like a status update as we're still seeing really bad I/O performance for our vm.

We've been having intermittent problems for the last few months where performance has been patchy but recently we've had long wait times when people were accessing the sites.

After taking a close look at the system we believe it's all down to IO as we're almost never maxxing out the CPU or memory.

We installed the sysstats package and have been running "sar" and we're seeing long IO wait times (across the last 7 hours that we've actively monitored).

We really need to get a handle on this as it's becoming a blocker for us (especially as we hit xmas which we hope will be a good time for ewelike.com (http://ewelike.com)!)

If it's a case of switching to one of the 20+160GB VMs, that's fine; we'd just like to know what we (or you) have to do to get things working quickly.

We are still seeing some ongoing issues with disk IO I'm afraid, although they aren't affecting many users.

We are looking at ways we can rearchitect the storage platform at the moment to remove this issue permenantly, and hope to deliver this early in Q1 next year.

Adding an additional disk won't necessarily help, but it would be interesting to see if it made a difference. Our current best suggestion is adding a ramdisk for extremely frequently accessed files.
