View Full Version : Performance / Reliability / Downtime?

Hi,
I'm thinking about making the move to FlexiScale but wanted to see if I could get some real live feedback from users of the service regarding performance, reliability and amount of downtime. I'm particularly interested in hearing from people based on a Microsoft centric platform with a multi-server setup using SQL Server 2005 (especially if it's a fairly high traffic website).
I also have a thread going on http://asp.net for those who'd prefer to post their experiences there - http://forums.asp.net/t/1329496.aspx
Cheers,
Gavin.

So, I thought that "the outage" - the one where they lost my entire server and I had to reinstall everything on a new one - was a one-off.
But here I am again, unable to log into my control panel in order to start my server, and with the same lack of access to my core systems.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt last time, but I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that this place just isn't reliable enough for a business-critical system.

Hi
There was a problem with the control panel last night between 7.30pm and 9pm which stopped people accessing it.
This was noted on the status page at http://www.xcalibre.co.uk/status/status.php which at present doesn't link from the Flexiscale web site although this is something we are looking into

I only started trying out Flexiscale a few days ago.
On paper, Flexiscale is the best option for us, but there have been a few issues since I signed up, first with creating our account, and then with the control panel going down the other day.
Hopefully I've just been unlucky and these are just glitches. I really want to be able to use the service in production: the flexibility and price is right, and I'd like to support a British company - I'll see how it goes over the coming weeks with our test servers.

I didn't have to wait very long for the next outage. :(
Fortunately, I'm only testing things out at the moment. Does anyone actually use Flexiscale for anything mission-critical?

We have been trying to use Flexiscale, as you say support a British company and the idea of cloud computing is a great one. But now we are moving, we were using it for mission-critical projects but as displayed on numerous occasions Flexiscale can not provide reliable service, look at all the outages within recent months and you will see they have an apparent inability to provide what they promise.

James,
There is no doubt we haven't lived up to either customer expectations or our own. We had no doubt when we built this system we wanted it to perform to the highest level, and it clearly isn't at the moment.
I'll go into this in more detail in a post I'm going to make shortly both on the announcements forum and also to the blog, but we will be stopping signups for new customers for a period of time, and also stopping development of new services, in order for us to devote all our resources to solving our stability issues.
Regards,
Tony.
